Announcement: U18 Women’s

2014 NL Selects U18 Women’s Softball Team Tryouts for the 2014 NL Selects U18 Women’s Provincial Softball Team will begin on Saturday April 5th, 2014 at the NL Sports Centre on Crosbie Road, St. John’s. Tryouts are open to any female fastpitch, slopitch, and baseball players born in 1996 and 1997. Athletes selected to the final roster will compete at the 2014 U18 Girls Eastern Canadian Softball Championships in Conception Bay South, NL in late August. Athletes will be expected to make a full commitment to team training and register to play in the St. John’s Ladies Fastpitch League for the 2014 softball season. NOTE: The coach reserves the right to make cuts or add players to the pool/team at any time throughout the duration of the season. Interested athletes must pre-register by emailing Head Coach Paul Smith at softball.coach@hotmail.com. Due to the anticipated competition for roster positions interested players are strongly encouraged to attend all tryouts. Walk-on tryouts will NOT be permitted to attend as all planning will be based on the number of expected participants. Once the tryout process begins information on future tryout dates and other expected participation will be communicated through email to individual athletes. Teams Announced 2014 ISF Jr. Men’s

MEDIA RELEASE Teams Announced For 2014 ISF Junior Men’s World Championship (Whitehorse, YT) – Five continents will be represented at the 2014 ISF Junior Men’s World Softball Championship in Whitehorse. The championship will be held July 11 to 20 at the Pepsi Softball Centre, and on Thursday the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) revealed the eleven teams that will take part. Asia, Europe, North America, South America, and Oceania all have teams participating. Argentina heads to Whitehorse as the defending champions, after winning South America’s historic first-ever softball world championship at the event in 2012. They’ll be joined by host Canada, Mexico, United States and Venezuela, as representatives of the Americas. Japan, the 2012 silver medalist, and Singapore will be in Whitehorse on behalf of Asia. Europe will be represented at the world championship by the Czech Republic and Denmark. The awards will be presented during the 2014 Stars and Legends Awards Gala on Saturday, April 12th at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland in St. John’s “The Provincial Annual Awards represent the highest level of sporting achievement in our province,” said Rod Nicholl, President, Sport Newfoundland and Labrador. “These athletes have dedicated their lives to training and competing locally, provincially and even internationally and have truly raised the profile –and the bar– for amateur sport in Newfoundland and Labrador.” The Provincial Annual Awards recognize the best athletic achievements in the past year.
