Awards: Cleary, Galway Hitmen

Stars & Legends Awards Gala The Sport NL Stars & Legends Awards Gala was held on Saturday, April 16th, 2016 at The Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland in St. John’s.   Softballers were amongst the Finalists in three of the nine categories: Senior Male Athlete of the Year, Coach of the Year and Team of the Year.   Softball NL Would Like To Congratulate Sean Cleary (Harbour Main) on being named the Senior Male Athlete of the Year and Galway Hitmen on being named the Team of the Year.   Sean Cleary was presented with the Ferd Hayward Memorial Award. Congratulations Sean!   Sean Cleary (Softball) Hailing from Harbour Main, Sean Cleary enjoyed a golden year on the softball diamond and pitching circle at the local, provincial and national level. In league play, he led his team to a first place regular season and playoff finish, onto a first place provincial finish and was named top batter and most valuable player. Sean’s team, the Galway Hitmen won gold at the Senior Nationals and Sean was again named playoff MVP. Sean pitched Team Canada to gold medals at both the WBSC World Championships and the Pan American (Pan Am) Games.   Galway Hitmen were presented with the Edward P. Browne Memorial Award. 2015 Provincial Annual Award Winners Announced  The 2015 Provincial Annual Award Winners were announced Saturday night (April 16th) at the 2016 Stars and Legends Awards Gala at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland in St. John’s, NL.   Sport Newfoundland and Labrador’s Provincial Annual Awards recognized the best athletic achievements in the past year. 2016 NL Selects Evaluation Camp Info3 NL SELECTS/2017 TEAM NL U21 WOMEN’S SOFTBALL PROGRAM – OPEN PRACTICES – Open practices for female athletes born between 1996-2000 interested in trying out for the NL Selects/2017 TEAM NL U21 Women’s Softball Program are ongoing. To enter the NL Selects/2017 TEAM NL U21 Women’s Softball Program, individual athletes must pre-register by emailing Head Coach Paul Smith at the address below. The cost to tryout is $50.00 (non-refundable) and athletes must sign and commit to the Team Member Agreement which outlines the expectations for all athletes, including (not limited to) technical skill training, strength and conditioning, and mental skills training. Training will take place in various facilities throughout the St. John’s area, however arrangements will be made to provide opportunities for evaluation to athletes for which geography may otherwise be an obstacle.
