Softball Newfoundland Labrador Introduced The Bob Whelan Memorial Award At The 2009 Softball NL Annual General Meeting.
The Award Is Named After Bob Whelan Who Passed Away Peacefully And Suddenly On Friday, October 30, 2009. Bob Whelan Contributed So Much To The Game As A Builder For More Than 25-Years.
Bob Whelan served on the Softball NL Executive for four years: 1964-Junior Chairman, 1965-Treasurer, 1969-Eastern Vice-President & 1970-Eastern Vice-President, was named Male Executive of the Year in 1964, was named a Life-Member of Softball NL in 1971 and was inducted into the Softball NL Hall of Fame (Builder Category) in 1976.
The Bob Whelan Memorial Award Will Be Presented To A Member Of The Association Who Has Made An Outstanding And Significant Contribution To Softball.

Passed away peacefully and suddenly on Friday, October 30, 2009, surrounded by his loving wife and family, Bob Whelan, age 76. Predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Maude Whelan, brother Thomas Whelan and sister Betty Kennedy. Leaving to mourn his wife and best friend of 53 years Mary; 8 children Gerard (Yvonne), Joanne Ward (Darryl), Eddie, Paul (Linda), Mary (Fred), Caroline (Terry), Peggy Chafe (Roger) and Maria (Darryl); 17 grandchildren Steve, Nicole, Mandy, Kayla, Michael, Kaitey, Gerard, Ronnie, Jordan, Daniel, Maggie-Jo, Connor, Ashley, Joel, Anna, Cody and Bob; one great-grandson Ben; sister Eleanor Barron; sister-in-law Jude Whelan; life-time friends Adrian (Duke) St. Croix, Ann and John Quinlan, Rose and Billy Stephenson, Sylvia and John Wall, also leaving to mourn the Mackey Family.
