SENIOR LEAGUE KICKED OFF 56TH SEASON

The five team Molson St. John’s Senior Softball League opened its 56th season on Sunday May 27th with 3Cheers Pub Bud Light shutting out Bull & Finch Bar & Grill 3-0 and Imagewear Custom Apparel defeating Kelly’s Pub Molson Bulldogs 5-1 in the second half of the doubleheader.

The eight team Molson St. John’s Intermediate Softball League kicked off its eight season on Wednesday, May 30th with CBS storm defeating the NL Midget Selects 10-9 and Goulds defeating CBC Junior Canadians 12-5 in the second half of a double-header.

Goulds defeated Lafontaine Club Molson 1-0 in the title game of the 15th annual Molson Swing into Summer Softball Tournament. Mark Power pitched the win on a three hitter and twelve strikeouts. He was also responsible for the game’s only run with a solo home run.

Hogan Ball Field in Dunville. Mike Noftall pitched the win (7IP, 5H, 5K) and Bryan Clarke hit a two run home run in leading the team to victory.

NL Selects U-18 Girls Fast Pitch finished eighth with a 4-3 record in a twenty team U-18 Montreal International Softball Challenge.

On July 3rd Ward Gosse (Bull & Finch Bar & Grill) became the 1st player to reach 100 Regular Season Home Runs in the 56 Year History of the St. John’s Senior Men’s Softball League.

On July 26th John Farrell (Kelly’s Pub Molson Bulldogs) became the 16th player in St. John’s Senior Softball League History to Record 300 Career Hits.

KPJC CAPTURED JUNIOR MEN’S NATIONAL CROWN

Kelly’s Pub Junior Canadians defeated host Owen Sound Selects 5-3 to claim the Province’s fifth Gold Medal and third in seven years at the Canadian Junior Mens Championships. Mark Power pitched the win in the deciding game (7IP, 2ER, 4H, 1W, 4K) and Alex Power hit a solo home run, Jeremy O’Reilly had two RBI singles and Shane Boland had two his including a home run. Kelly’s finished the tournament with a 9-2 Record.

NL Selects finished first in the consolation round-ninth overall with a 4-6 record at the National Midget Boy’s Softball Championship played in Fredericton, NB. Winning pitcher Colby Murphy scattered four hits and five walks over seven innings in a 8-4 win over Nelson NB in the Consolation Final. Philip Corbett was 2-2 with two RBI to lead the Selects.

BRONZE MEDAL FOR NL AT BANTAM BOY’S ECSC

NL Selects won a bronze medal with a 5-3 Record at the Bantam Boy’s Eastern Canadian Championships in St. Croix, NS. The Selects defeated East Hants 12-3 before losing 8-2 to Perry Jacks Ontario in the Semi-Final Game.

NL BANTAM GIRL’S SELECTS ATTENDED ECSC 

NL Bantam Girls Selects finished in eighth place with 0-6 record at Eastern Canadian Bantam Girl’s Championships played in North River, NS.

JARVIS TRAVELERS 2012 ISC WORLD CHAMPIONS 

The Jarvis Travelers of Ontario with the help of three players from this province defeated the Hill United Chiefs 8-6 in eight innings to win the ISC World Softball Championship in Midland, Michigan. Ryan Boland, Shane Boland & Sean Cleary were members of the Jarvis roster.

Four players from the province were named to the All-World 1st Team including Cleary (Pitcher), Stephen Mullaley (Infielder), Blair Ezekiel (Infielder) & Brad Ezekiel (Outfielder).

GOSSE OUTSTANDING AT ISC II 

Ward Gosse was instrumental in helping the Parry Island Ontario Hawks to the ISC II World Tournament Championship in Midland, Michigan. The Hawks defeated Dolan and Murphy from Aurora, Ill, 1-0 in the Championship Game. Gosse tossed the win and went 2-3 at the plate. Gosse was named Tournament MVP, Outstanding Pitcher and named to the All-Tournament team. He finished with a 4-0 record including three shutouts, posting a 0.25 ERA with 16 strikeouts. 

CBC CLAIMED BOY’S DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP AT NL SUMMER GAMES

CBC defeated Placentia 9-2 to claim the championship in the Boy’s Division of the NL Summer Games held in Carbonear. CBC finished the six team tournament with a 3-1 Record.

Shane Boland of the Goulds is believed to be the first player in Canadian softball history to be a member, three major championship teams in the same season.

MAYNARD REACHED MILESTONE

On August 23rd Joey Maynard (Bull & Finch Bar & Grill) became the 10th player in Senior League History to play in 400 Regular Season Games.

SEPTEMBER 2012

GOLD & BRONZE FOR NL AT SENIOR MEN’S NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP 

3Cheers Pub Bud Light defeated the defending champs Kitchener Hallman Cubs 5-0 in a rain shortened game to win the Canadian Senior Men’s Softball Championship for the first time in the province’s history. They finished the tournament with a perfect 9-0 Record.

DIAMONDS SPARKLED TO CLAIM SENIOR LADIES CROWN

Diamonds defeated Dream Kitchens 7-6 on Erin Mullaley’s steal of home in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the Coors Light St. John’s Ladies Softball League best of three championship series 2-0 Sami Kennedy pitched the win, while Kristina Lemon was the losing pitcher in relief of starter Amy Corbett. Jessica Walsh of the winners was the game’s top batter going 2-4, with an RBI and a run scored.

HILL, BLAIR EZEKIEL, MULLALEY & RYAN BOLAND CAPTURED PAN-AM GOLD

Four Newfoundlander’s Jason Hill, Blair Ezekiel, Stephen Mullaley & Ryan Boland helped Canada win the Gold Medal at the VIII Pan American Men’s Softball Championships in Medellin, Colombia with a 4-1 win over Venezuela. Canada finished the tournament with a 9-3 Record. It was Canada’s first Gold Medal since 1993.

Colin Abbott went out with a bang. The Bull & Finch Bar & Grill slugger playing his last competitive softball game belted a three run home to help his team to a 5-2 over Imagewear Custom Apparel in the seventh and deciding game of the Senior League Final. Ward Gosse pitched the win over losing pitcher Robbie Greene. Bryan Clarke opened the scoring for the winners with a two run home run in the first inning.
