Reg Mercer Was Involved With Softball For Many Years And Is Best Known For His Outstanding Contributions As A Coach And Executive Member Of The St. John’s Ladies Softball League.

On The Field As A Coach
Coached 23-Years (1967-1990) In The St. John’s Ladies Softball League.
Captured 11 St. John’s Ladies Softball League Titles (1967, 1974-1978, 1982-1983, 1985-1986 & 1988).
Captured 5 Senior “A” Ladies FP Provincial Championships (1974, 1978, 1982, 1984 & 1987).

Off The Field As An Executive
Served 15-Years (1975-1988 & 1990) As Vice-President Of The St. John’s Senior Ladies Softball League.
Served 1-Year (1989) As President Of The St. John’s Senior Ladies Softball League.

On The Field As A Player
Played In The St. John’s Senior Men’s Fastpitch League (1974).
Played In The Commercial Men’s Fastpitch League.
Captured 3 Commercial League Championships (1971, 1972 & 1973).
Captured 2 Senior “B” Men’s Provincial Championships (1968 & 1971).
Played In The Inter-Street Men’s Fastpitch League.
Played In The Black Horse Men’s Fastpitch League.

Reginald Mercer
Passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones at the Health Sciences Centre on November 12 at the age of 73. Predeceased by his parents Chesley and Beatrice Mercer, siblings Ronnie Mercer, Sylvia Mercer, Billy Mercer and Sandra Mercer; brother-in-law Reid Touché, and in-laws John A. and Helen Foran. Left with full hearts and amazing memories his loving wife of 44 years Joan (nee Foran), sons Corey (Lisa) and Craig (Suzanne Fitzgerald); siblings Douglas (Angela), Randy, Diane, Peg Morgan (Lloyd), Rosalind, Phyllis Barnett (Chris), Bibs Hearn (Robbie); sister-in-law Diane Mercer; brothers and sisters-in-law Maurice Galgay (Michele), Nicholas Galgay (Sheila), Ann (Robert Bell), Helen (Grant Lamb), John Foran (Maureen), Dennis, Darlene (Paul Farris), Dawn (Frank Walkey), Mary Carole Foran; and grandchildren who always brought a smile to his face Isaac, Bela, Charlotte and Jackson; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, and his loyal canine companion Indie. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Reg’s family physician Dr. Percy Crocker for his excellent care over the years, and to the staff at the Health Sciences Centre for their diligent and compassionate care. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, St. John’s, on Thursday, November 15 and Friday November 16 from 1-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service from Carnell Memorial Chapel on Saturday, November 17 at 1 p.m. Interment to follow at Kenmount Road Anglican Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted, or donations to an animal welfare charity, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
