Premier’s Athletic Awards (Softball)

The Premier’s Athletic Awards were held in a virtual ceremony on Tuesday, June 23, 2020.

The Premier’s Athletic Awards Program recognizes athletic excellence and provides financial support to help offset the costs of training and competition. Ranging from $500 to $1500, grants are awarded based on the athletes’ respective accomplishments and their level of competition.

The Team Gushue Awards were also presented, which are in honour of Team Gushue’s Gold Medal win at the 2006 Winter Olympics. Valued at $5000 each, the awards are presented annually to one male and one female who excel both athletically and academically.

Softball NL would like to take this opportunity to Congratulate Jenna Connolly (Goulds), Calista Corbett (Holyrood), Jordan Pomeroy (Placentia) & Liam Shea (Dunville) on being named Premier’s Athletic Awards Recipients for their performance during the 2019 Season!

Jenna Connolly (Goulds) Is A 3rd Year Physical Education Student At Memorial University.

In 2019, Jenna Was A Member Of The Galway Women’s Fastpitch Team That Captured The Lloyd Poirier Memorial Tournament Championship, The Softball NL Women’s Fastpitch Provincial Championship And Represented Newfoundland Labrador (HOST) At The Women’s Canadian Fastpitch Championship In St. John’s.

Calista Corbett (Holyrood) Is A 3rd Year Petroleum Engineering Technology Student At College of North Atlantic.

In 2019, Calista Was A Member Of The Galway Women’s Fastpitch Team That Captured the Lloyd Poirier Memorial Tournament Championship, The Softball NL Women’s Fastpitch Provincial Championship And Represented Newfoundland Labrador (HOST) At The Women’s Canadian Fastpitch Championship In St. John’s.

Jordan Pomeroy (Placentia) Is A 3rd Year Kinesiology Major At Memorial University.

In 2019, Jordan Participated In The St. John’s Senior & Intermediate Men’s Fastpitch Leagues. In Senior League Play, He Was Named To The All-League Team (Infielder). In Intermediate League Play, He Was The Top Batter – Regular Season, Was Named To The All-League Team (Outfielder) And Was Named Player Of The Month For August. Jordan Represented Newfoundland Labrador at the U23 Men’s Canadian Fastpitch Championship (4th Place) And Men’s Canadian Fastpitch Championship (1st Place).

Liam Shea (Dunville) Is A 2nd Year Pharmacy Student At Memorial University.

In 2019, Liam Participated In The St. John’s Senior & Intermediate Men’s Fastpitch Leagues. In Senior League Play, He Was Named Rookie Of The Year And Gold Glove Winner. In Intermediate League Play, He Was Named To The All-League Team (Infielder) And Gold Glove Winner. Liam represented Newfoundland Labrador At The U19 Men’s Canadian Fastpitch Championship (6th Place).
