RE: NL COVID-19 Alert Levels

Softball NL Membership,
Below is the NL COVID-19 Alert Levels outlined by the Province.

We are currently at Level 5 and after reviewing the details of each Level, we believe that Softball falls under Alert Level 3: Increase Re-Opening After Demonstrating Control Of COVID-19 Transmission, more specifically, it covers the following with a start date of June 8 at the earliest…

Level 3 (Start Date June 8 At The Earliest)

Medium-Risk Outdoor Recreational Activities Can Resume (e.g., Team Field Sports). Spectators Must Maintain Physical Distancing.

Outdoor Pools Can Operate With A Limited Number Of People.

Gym And Fitness Facilities, Yoga Studios, Tennis And Squash Facilities, Arenas, Dance Studios And Performance Spaces Remain Closed.

Sport NL has reached out to Government for a further explanation in terms of field sports and the parameters around a return to activity. We expect to know more this week on our weekly Sport NL meeting.

With that said, should we get the go ahead, we will need to be ready to present to Government and the Chief Medical Officer what it is that we will do to ensure Softball is following the proper measures including social and safe distancing, as well as ensuring proper sanitary playing conditions.

The reality is that if we get approval our game may look a little different, but suffice it to say, the thought of getting to play ball this summer is looking more promising.

As we know, things could change quickly, so we all need to do our part to put ourselves in the best possible position to get on the field.
